Guest speaker

Liz Foster, from the Auxiliary, came by to discuss some of the plans that the city of Elephant Butte has to demonstrate patriotism. This will include, but not be limited to, a city long display of flags to be flown on Flag Day June 14.  These will go from the VFW to the Elephant Butte Inn.  Additionally, there will be a parade and numerous other events.  I won’t steal her thunder so I will let you read about all of this in her portion of the newsletter.  The S.A.L voted to assist wherever possible.

Sons of the American Legion- Bill Nenno

The Sons of the American Legion held its monthly meeting Feb 18. In attendance were Deone Harty, Donnie Polstin, Tillman Smith, Bob Nellis and Bill Nenno.

 Membership

As is to be expected this time of year membership has slowed down.  When we received our cards last year in July we had 85 paid members for 2013.  We currently have 76 paid members.

While on the subject of membership the S.A.L envelope behind the bar contains four membership cards which need to be picked up.  There is one card for Joseph Carey, cards for Donald Berry and Richard Gallo which were mailed and returned because of incorrect addresses, and lastly there is a card for Robert Weyer of Oconto Wisconsin.  All of these may be picked up at the post.  The card for Robert Weyer has been in the S.A.L envelope since November.  It was my understanding that this card would be picked up but if that is not the case I can mail it.  Does anyone know what’s going on with Robert and whether he is still in the area?

Election of officers

It is that time of year when we elect officers for the S.A.L.  The current slate of officer’s terms will end May 1 when the new slate of officers will take command.  Anyone interested in becoming an officer should let that intent be known as we will be coming up with a slate of officers to be presented in our March meeting and voted upon in our April meeting.

As always there seems to be a dearth of individuals willing to step up and take their turn as officers.  This, of course, is not surprising given the laws of motion. This phenomenon has, in fact, been well known and documented ever since Galileo suggested the replacement of the archaic and mundane Aristotelian divisions of motion.  Our caveat springs, as indeed it should, from the third law of thermodynamics i.e. entropy.  Need I say more?

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be held Tuesday Mar 18, 2014 at 6:30 PM at the Post.  The S.A.L. meetings are always held on the third Tuesday of the month and all are invited to attend.

As always, remember that organizations are not really organizations, they are just people. Help out when you can and when you see them, thank those that do help out and let’s all work together for the common good.
Thanks for supporting our Post, our Community and most of all —the Veteran
