Unscheduled Ride:
Chapter 5 has reclaimed “Never Forgotten” the traveling trophy!

image005webOn December 1st Chapter 5 sent 7 bikes and 9 riders to Silver City where they reclaimed the trophy which now resides once again in our trophy case. The Picture is from the Post 18 parking lot where we were met by the riders from Chapter 13.

Our compliments to all the riders from Chapter 13 that turned out to honor the spirit of the trophy and treat us to a great lunch at a great little place in Hurley.

Afterward they provided escort up to Emory Pass on our trip home

December Ride: The normal ride day was December 8th; but that was also the day of the second Saturday breakfast and Toys for Kids event so our regularly scheduled ride was cancelled so we could join in. Riders met at The Wall at 11.00am with their bikes festooned with children’s toys and participated in a short parade in T or C. It is worthy to note that all toys stay in Sierra County..

Luminaria Walk: Members of American Legion Post 44 in Elephant Butte hosted campsite 2 for the Luminaria Walk at Elephant Butte State Park. The event was held lakeside at the park the evening of the 8th of December. This annual event is sponsored by the Elephant Butte Chamber of Commerce to support the Make a Wish Foundation. Post 44 also makes a direct contribution toward the Luminaria themselves.

It was a beautiful evening with the best weather we’ve had in years. Post members, the Auxiliary and Legion Riders partnered to make a great showing for Post 44. The flags flew around the campsite which was festively decorated with Christmas lights, abundant luminarias and two bonfires. The campsite handed out treats, Sloppy Joes and pecan pie muffins to the large crowd and the American Legion Riders provided passers-by with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The Riders used the event as an opportunity to set up a POW/MIA table in order to draw attention to what it stands for. They fielded a lot of questions from people who had never seen one before.

Aid to Veterans Home: Members of Chapter 5 met with riders from around the area including chapters from Alamogordo, Grants, Silver City and Tularosa on Saturday, Dec. 15th. They visited the Veterans home where they handed out lap blankets, poker supplies, money for each resident’s canteen account, and a huge 72″ flat screen TV to put in their new recreational area.
