Post Commander – Tom Cleveland
Fall has arrived and with it some welcome cooler weather. September at the Post was a fun‐filled month and a challenging one too. The highlight was the Annual Golf Tournament held at the beautiful Sierra Del Rio Golf Course. We were blessed with super weather and an outstanding turnout of golfers. Thanks to 2nd Vice Commander Bob Acre and his many volunteers for putting this year’s event together. Also, a big thanks to our ALA women for providing a super lunch for the participants and guests.

We have been challenged recently with a few unexpected expenses. The north retaining wall rebuild was $7,400 and a new ice maker on order is going to run $3,000. Your support is greatly appreciated and donations are always welcome. Many thanks to Jimmy Short for ramrodding the retaining wall project.

The September Post General Meeting was held on Saturday the 24th and was attended by District 7 Commander John Sterle and his First Vice Thom Barry. It was a pleasure to host them and they were both impressed with the Post facility and its operation. I encouraged them to return any time.

The highlight of the meeting was the distribution of the equal shares of money to the Post family groups for their participation in the Golf Tournament. SAL, ALA, and Riders each received $2,300.

Thanks again for your support. The SAL Commander, Doug Carey, attended the meeting and at the wishes of their membership, graciously donated the SAL share of the money back to the Post. My deepest thanks to you and all Sons for your generosity.

I know that I’m forgetting something but with so many activities happening at the Post, please forgive me. Remember to stay focused on our mission—serving veterans, their families and our community.

Post Commander – Tom Cleveland
Well August is over and what an outstanding month it was. There were so many and varied events taking place that it’s head-spinning. Little did I know just what I had undertaken becoming a Post Commander. The social quarters are returning to pre-Covid days and it’s great to see so many “old” familiar faces in attendance. Thanks to all the members who volunteer their time and energy to make these events happen!

We are currently relying 100% on volunteers for Wednesday dinners and for Friday Grill. The menus and start times for Friday Grill are extremely fluid right now so please be patient as we work to be able to offer something from the kitchen each Friday. Anyone interested in helping out, please see me.

Remember that Early Bird Dues sign up ends September 30th. For faster response on renewal of your 2023 membership, please pay your dues at the Post or mail to the Post at the address shown above.

The rebuild of the North wall by the building is nearing completion, thanks to the quick response of a local contractor. God only knows what might have happened if the old one would have failed because of all the recent heavy rains.

The Annual Post Golf Tournament is fast approaching on Saturday, September 17th. Get your team together and sign up before the 7th so Bob has a count of the number of teams to turn in to the Sierra del Rio course manager to secure the lower rate.

Our long time Finance Officer, Bill Conklin, has been forced to resign that position due to health concerns. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for a fast and complete recovery. My thanks to you, Bill, for your past dedication to the position. Bob Nellis has volunteered to fill the job for the remainder of Bill’s term.

Remember to stay focused on our mission—serving veterans, their families, and our community.
