Newsletter – September 2019

Commander – Gary Burrows
It is with much sadness we mourn the loss of Arlea Hadley. Her husband Vince and family are in our prayers. We also send up prayers for Donnie Polson as well as Linde for a speedy recovery.
After much consideration we have chosen to remain with our current gaming company.

Our Sons of the American Legion and our new cook has cranked out some fantastic food. Let’s not forget the many volunteers who complete numerous tasks that make this post great.

Finance Officer – Ellen Penington
Since I am writing this before months end, August’s financial figures haven’t been achieved yet so I will comment on the July figures.

However, at the time I am writing this the August figures appear to be very closely in line with July. In July the bar had a net ordinary income of $3872 and was very much in line with the June figures. The kitchen has improved somewhat, bringing in a net income of$1075. Post operations had slightly lower expenses for the month of July than usual.

There were no unusual expenses that we didn’t plan for. The Post continues on a strong financial footing.

Activities Committee – Linda Ross 505-550-6366
September is here already. With it comes cooler weather and our big event of the year, THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 44 ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT on Saturday the 14th. If you have not already signed up to play, you can still come have fun with us. On that day our monthly breakfast will start serving at 7:00 a.m. then the tournament begins at SDR and after golf lunch at the Post about 2:00 p.m. with awards and raffle prizes. Bill Medina will provide Karaoke to round out an especially fun day.

Our next special event will come on Sunday the 22nd. We are having a pot luck at 4:00 p.m. with recipes out of our Auxiliary Cookbook. Come show off your culinary talents and enjoy all the delicious food.

We are having our usual monthly Swap Meet on Saturday the 7th, pool on Sunday the 1st and 15th and fun pool every Friday at 4:00. Bunco continues on the 12th and 26th with game day on every Thursday afternoon.

Elaine is preparing some delicious dinners for our Wednesday evenings followed by great music from our live bands. Except, on the 3rd Wednesday of every month the Sons (SALS) prepare their delicious Chicken Fried steak for our enjoyment.

The Activities Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. on September 9th. Any new ideas or suggestions are encouraged. Come out, enjoy your Post and let the committee know their efforts to provide a good time are not wasted.
