COMMANDER – Roy Lucero – Commander & Newsletter Editor
Thank you for the honor of electing me to serve as our commander for another year. I, along with all the officers you have elected will continue to do our best to keep Post 44 on an even keel. With all of your support, I have no doubt that we will prosper and continue to enjoy our reputation of being among the friendliest posts in New Mexico.
April shaped up to be another good month here at the Post. The activities and entertainment were outstanding. I had the pleasure of attending the JROTC Awards Banquet and presenting medals to two outstanding JROTC cadets. Cristal Coss was awarded the American Legion Medal for Scholastic Excellence, and Ezekial Alvarez received the American Legion Medal for Military Excellence.
The American Legion National Commander, James E Kouts, New Mexico Department Commander, Robert Jaramillo, along with other representatives from Department, will be visiting our Post on Tuesday, May 14th. We’ve planned a small dinner at 6:00 pm. This would be a great opportunity to meet the National Commander and visit with our guests.
To mention a few things happening in May, The Legion will be represented in the Fiesta Day Parade on May 4th with Golf Carts decorated by our Auxiliary. The Auxiliary and the Riders will have booths at Ralph Edwards Park on the 4th and 5th. Don’t forget to come out for the Mother’s Day Dinner on May 12th. We’ll be putting out flags at all the cemeteries on Sunday, May 26th in preparation for Monday’s Memorial Day observance. If you’d like to help, be at the new cemetery at 9:00 am.
Once again, thank you for all you do, and see you at the Post.

Elections are complete. I want to thank all of you who again placed their trust in me and re-elected me as your First Vice Commander. I promise to continue to fulfill my duties of this important office and support the Post to the utmost of my ability. Again, throughout the coming year, if you have any suggestions or ideas that would benefit the Post operations please bring them to me or any of the other elected officers.
Traditionally, the summer months are our most difficult revenue generating times; so please come into the Post and support the many functions and fun activities the committee has planed.
Thanks again! Have a safe and fun summer and hope to see you at Post 44!
Finance Officer – Dr. G. Vincent Barrett
Last month’s net position resulted in a reasonable profit for the month of approximately $1,723 and by the end of March 2013 the year to date loss was down to -$5,003. Although we are still registering a loss thus far, for this fiscal year, I believe that within the next two months that situation will be turned around. My optimism is based on actions taken by the Executive Committee as well a significant pick up in bar/kitchen/gaming activities. The month of April to date is looking pretty good. Hopefully by the end of this fiscal year June 30 we will be back to a positive position.
Adjutant – Bob Nellis
In order to continuing entry into Post 44, you must be paid-up and receive your 2013 membership card. Effective July 1, 2013 – new membership cards for the new fiscal year will be available from National through our NM Department.
