Newsletter – November 2021

It’s a busy time of year for Post 44.

The District VII Fall meeting is in Las Cruces November 7. On November 21, the Activities Committee is hosting a Member Appreciation Dinner.

We have started collecting monetary donations for our annual food boxes for needy families. You can mail your donation to the Post or drop it in the collection containers on the bar.

Mark your calendar for this year’s Luminaria Beach Walk December 11. Post 44 will be serving up Sloppy Joes, hot chocolate, and pecan pie muffins for your stroll through the luminarias.

December 18, Santa will hand out Angel Tree gifts at the Post and the annual Post Christmas Party is that same evening. Always check the latest calendar for upcoming Post activities.

Unfortunately, not all news is good news. I regret to report that Elaine Garlow, Post cook and Gaming Auditor, has resigned due to health reasons. I can’t thank her enough for her hard work and support of Post 44 and wish her a speedy recovery. She will be missed. In her place, the Post has hired Mitzi Claussen as Gaming Auditor, who will also be assisting Kristin in the office.

We are actively looking to hire a cook, but until then, meals served from the Post kitchen will be provided by volunteers. If you are interested, contact me, the Post, or a member of the Activities Committee.

The last General Membership meeting of 2021 is Saturday, November 20, 10:30 a.m. at the Post. Remember, there are no meetings in December.

We succeed because you participate and continue to support your Post. Thank you.

Newsletter – October 2021

Commander – David Thibeau
I am pleased to announce that the Post has two new officers. Mike Behnen was elected 1st Vice Commander by the Executive Committee in September due to the resignation of Al Norton. Barbara Thompson was elected 2nd Vice Commander by the Executive Committee in August due to the resignation of Bob Acre. They will serve in their positions until the next Post election in 2022. Please welcome and support them as they assume their new responsibilities.

Post operating funds have improved significantly since our 100% reopening in July. Thank you all for your generosity and continued support of Post fundraisers and activities.

This year’s golf tournament was a great success. Special thanks to Kathy Norton and Linda Nenno for spearheading this year’s largest fundraiser. Also to SAL Donny Polstin in his tireless pursuit of many of the sponsors. And, last but not least, to the many Post 44 Family volunteers and donors for their help and generosity with this year’s event.

October sees our Halloween Costume Party on the 30th and Legionnaires, please mark your calendar to attend the monthly General Membership meeting on Saturday, October 16 at 10:30 am. We need your input to help us make the best decisions for Post 44.
