Newsletter – March 2019

Commander – Al Norton
The March General Membership meeting on the 16th will be the last day to accept nominations for the 2019-2020 officers. It is good to see a new name on the board!

All private clubs in the state are working together to convince the state to allow us to have Pull Tab sales back. This has been a long hard effort. So far the Bill (177) has passed the Senate by a vote of 44-0. The bill is moving to the House for vote soon.

Activities Committee is working to make more activities available. The only way we can be successful is by member participation in our clubs programs. The Chicken Fried Steak for February was a financial burden on our Post. Any suggestion to improve member participation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Charlene for finding Double Trouble band, I think they were great and hope they will return soon. What do you think?

Remember that member participation in the Post events is our life blood.

God Bless you all, the American Legion, our troops and our beloved United States of America!

February was a good month for the post. The Valentines dinner was a huge success and we stayed in the black financially putting it on. The front entrance was mostly finished in February and expenses for that addition ran as expected. Looking forward to March we are entering scholarship season. Hopefully we will be able to help some well deserving high school seniors achieve their goal of attending college. We continue on a strong financial footing as we head into spring.

We are off to another good year. January meeting starts the search for the 2019-2020 Officers! Nominations are accepted January, February and March with the elections at the April General membership meeting. Let’s try hard to have a full slate of officers to step up and help operate our Post.

We still have some unpaid members. We need to get everyone paid up for 2019. Let’s work on getting more people interested in the American Legion.

God Bless our Troops, Veterans & All Americans!

December was a little slow for the post, especially in the kitchen and bar but that is usual for the holidays when everyone is saving their money for gifts. January picked up both and the kitchen and for bar sales maybe to the point of making up for the December slack. The post is still doing financially well and we are looking to prepare for the school scholarship season which is coming up soon. We are also looking to February to be a very good month financially for us with both the Super Bowl and Valentines Day in this month.

Activities Committee – Linda Ross
Our first fun event in February is a Super-duper Super Bowl Party on the 3rd. Fun will start at 3:00 with a soup/sandwiches potluck. You can get your tickets for a chance at winning the 50/50 drawing. There will be trivia with prizes, so wear your team jerseys or colors and come join in the fun. Guys vs Gals pool also starts at 3:00.

Our monthly breakfast and bake/book sale occurs on Saturday, the 9th, at 8:00 a.m. Cost is only $7 for all you the really good food can eat.

New fun event is a February Birthday Bash. Yes. All having a birthday will be stars for the evening. They will sign our Celebrity Wall and then we will all enjoy a soup supper potluck and, of course, a gorgeous birthday cake. This all starts at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday the 10th.

The bartenders are busy selling paper hearts for $1 each or 5 for $5. Get yours soon, as the drawing will be on the 13th. The winner will receive 50% of the pot and 2nd and 3rd places delicious batches of homemade candies.

Love will be in the air at our Valentine Day celebration on Wednesday, the 13th, where you will be served a steak and shrimp dinner with all the trimmings starting at 5:00 p.m. A new band out of Las Cruces, Double Trouble, has been booked for your dancing and listening pleasure. Tickets are being pre-sold by the bartenders. Cost is $15 each or 2 for $25. Get yours soon, as they will be going fast and we have a limited number to sell.

On the 16th, Sue Barr will be playing at the monthly Saturday night Dance along with a Potato Bar. The theme this month for toppings is barbeque. Food served at 5:00 with music at 6:00.

Brush off your chile recipes, as our second Post 44 Great Chile Cookoff is at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday the 24th. Come buy a taster cup for $3, taste them all and vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We will have prizes for the winners.

Of course, on top of all these events, we have the usual Wednesday night dinners and dancing to live bands, and Karaoke on Fridays and Bunco on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Our game days are on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays and Scotch Doubles pool on Sunday the 17th with Fun pool very Friday.

Our Activities Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. on Monday the 11th at the Post. New faces and ideas are always welcome. Be sure to check your calendars for all the dates and times for a fabulous February.
