June 2020 Update

From Commander David Thibeau on June 22, 2020

Post 44 remains closed as a result of several State of New Mexico Public Health Emergency Orders to limit the spread of Covid-19. Compliance forced Post 44 to close its doors March 19.

We have been closed for more than 3 months, but will reopen as soon as possible. The officers and staff continue to tend to Post business and maintain the facilities.

Note –
In-house Executive Committee and General Membership Meetings remain cancelled.

To address the election of 2020-2021 officers, Post 44 followed the National and Department of NM recommendation to keep current officers in place until the 2021 election time.

The Executive Committee unanimously passed by phone-vote, a Post 44 resolution keeping the current officers in place and allowed the filling of any vacancies. We will review the Resolution and details of this action at the next General Membership meeting after we reopen.

Officers in place until the 2021 election time.
Commander – David Thibeau
First Vice Commander – Al Norton
Second Vice Commander – Bob Acre (vacancy filled)
Finance Officer – Bill Conklin
Sgt-at-Arms – Orlando Saavedra
Chaplain – John Wheeler

Service Officer – vacant

Newsletter – April 2020

Commander – David Thibeau
As you may already know, Post 44 closed its doors to members on March 19 and will remain closed until April 10 or until otherwise directed. This is the result of several State of New Mexico Public Health Emergency Orders issued by the Governor to limit the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. Regrettably, compliance with the Orders forced us to lay off most of our dedicated employees.

We truly hope this is temporary and stays short term. In the meantime, Post officers and remaining staff continue to take care of Post business and are waiting for the notice allowing us to reopen.

When we do reopen, members will enjoy a spruced up Post. The Casino will be remodeled and the Post floors will have been freshly stripped and re-waxed.

The Post 44 family may not be able to enjoy each other face to face, but we can stay connected. Call, text, email, Skype, visit over the fence, whatever, just check up on your friends, family, fellow veterans, neighbors, anyone who is alone. We can still be the best at serving veterans, their families, and our community.

The next Executive Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at 9:00 a.m.

As our March General Membership meeting was cancelled, nominations for officers were extended until the April General Membership meeting Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. Election of officers will be held at the April meeting. If you are interested in serving as a Post officer, please contact Tom Cleveland or Al Norton.

Finance Officer – Bill Conklin
I was hoping for good news but the uncertainty of day to day operations may be hampered. Elsewhere in the news letter you will find out what is going on. Right now gaming room is closed until April 11th 2020, that is one of our big contributor to charities. The other is the bar and kitchen, with limited income we will be able to survive for a while.

For some good news, February was an ok month. Income was approximately $2500.00 and charity received over $4000.00. During the shut down all requests will be on a case by case basis.

Here’s hoping this coronavirus goes through fast and we can get back to normal. Be safe and Healthy.

Yes, there have been many precautionary changes for whole State, and Post 44 has been forced to close. Hopefully this is only temporary and with that in mind, as our doors reopen we have already planned the following:

  • The Pool tournaments are still on with 8 ball on the 19th at 3:00 p.m. where cheerleaders are always welcome and Friday fun pool is still at 4:30 p.m.
  • If you haven’t experienced “Girls Day Out” on Tuesday afternoons, you are really missing out. This begins shortly after noon.
  • Thursday Game afternoons are still going on every week in addition to Bunco on the 9th and 23rd.

For all these happenings we have music available thru our great jukebox and also the Post’s computer. Come experience some fun music.

Sure, some of our usual activities are temporarily curtailed, but we can still have a good time and most important, SUPPORT OUR POST. As other activities resume, you can get this information through emails and also the fliers posted on the tables.

Our Ladies will be gathering for the monthly luncheon at SdR Clubhouse on the 20th at 11:30. You will be getting reminded of that via email.

Our Activities Committee meets on Monday the 13th at 1:30 p.m. All new ideas are welcome. See you at the Post!
