The Veterans really enjoyed Char’s homemade 5-layer lasagna on February 1st. I’m guessing they don’t often have meals that good.

We had a nice crowd for the Super Bowl Party. Most of us didn’t have a team in the hunt, and the 1st half was a real snoozer, but it ended up being a really good entertaining game. The food was excellent and Linde’s jello shots were a big hit, and hit you big!

Bunco has really picked up the last few months. We had 16 players on the 9th, and 12 on the 23rd. If you’d like to join us, we play the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 1:00. Just let me know at the phone # above so we know how many tables to set up. Invite your non-member friends. Maybe they will become members.

Our bake sale on the 11th brought in $195. This money will go to various programs including Girls State and our Juniors. We also support cheerleaders, Friends of Foster Children, JROTC, Care Packages, Grad Bash, and much more. Come in on March 11th , 8:30-10:00, and satisfy your sweet tooth. We have some excellent bakers.

Our meeting on the 18th saw the poorest attendance I can remember. We had lots of people out of town, some were ill, and many were helping set up for the SCCA Bunco fundraiser. (We all wear many hats.) Nevertheless, we had enough members to pass motions for two donations; $200 to the Tiger cheer team for uniforms and equipment, and $200 for the Grad Bash.

We had 24 ladies for lunch at Point Blanc Winery on the 21st. Our March 21st lunch will be at the Elephant Butte Inn at 12:30.

Several Auxiliary members got together on the 24th, to help clean up Elephant Butte. Thank you Maurene Propst for organizing this event.

Fat Tuesday was a lot of fun and the food was great. Thank you, Richard Koudelka, for cooking and Mae Benjamin for organizing.

Please check the newsletter calendars for upcoming events. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Care packages- -Marty Novak
In February we sent 27 Care Packages. Thanks to all who came to help pack the boxes.

We’ve started adding something new to our Care Packages. We were told that they like the individual packets of tuna some are flavored and some are plain. They make a handy source of protein they can carry with them.
Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies. It takes us all to keep this project going.

We do Care Packages on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Our next packing day is March 8. We start arriving around 10 to start setting things up and making boxes and start filling the boxes about 10:30. We usually finish by 11. Anyone is welcome.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are still collecting used cell phones. These phones are sent for recycling and provide calling cards for our Troops. There is a collection container in the entry way of the Post.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act..
