Membership – Linda Nenno
We ended the fiscal year with 333 paid members, a long way from our goal of 442. Hopefully, we’ll do better this year. Maybe National will give us an attainable goal. The 2020 cards are here and we will start Early Bird renewal on July 1 and run through September 30. If you renew your membership during that time you will have a chance to win a free membership. Drawing will be held at the October meeting. Note: Our membership dues are $40 for senior members and $10 for junior members.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
We sent 24 Care Packages in June. Some of our people have come home so our numbers are down. If you know of anyone who is deployed, please give us their name and address and we will be happy to send them monthly packages for as long as they are deployed.
Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.
Logan and Jolene (2 of our young members) as well as Joe Baca and his daughter and grand daughter joined us to help pack. We appreciate everyone who comes to help with the packing. We couldn’t continue to do this worthy project without the help of all of you.
Our next Care Package day is July 10th. We start packing as soon as we finish setting out the supplies and everything is ready…about 10:15 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are no longer collecting cell phones. Homeland security will only allow me to send 3 cell phones at a time rather than sending them in the medium flat rate box. This is making it too costly to continue.
What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act..
