Newsletter – January 2020

Auxiliary President – Ginny Lucero, 505-453-7401
Happy New Year!

Many of us baked, baked and baked. We delivered 42 cookie trays to local businesses around town thanking them for their continued support. We packed over 20 care packages with goodies and mailed to our troops not able to be home for Christmas. We provided dozens of pecan pie muffins for the luminaria walk on December 14. Thanks to all of you for your help.

Our monthly bake sale will be back on January 11 during the monthly breakfast.

On January 19 there will be soup cook-off starting at 2:00 p.m. Bring your favorite soup; prizes will be awarded for the best in the house.

Monday, January 20 ladies lunch will be held at Johnny B’s at 11:30 a.m. Look for more information from Nancy and to sign up.

Our monthly meeting is Saturday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.

We collect box tops (please make sure they haven’t expired) & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

For all other Post activities, please pick up a calendar and newsletter.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Thank you to those who have renewed for 2020. The dues are $40/year, and help us continue the programs that serve Veterans and their families. Membership is our most important program, since without members, we cease to exist. Tell your non-member friends about us, what we do and encourage them to join if they are eligible. Carry a membership application in your purse. You, as a member, know we have some really good things going on at the Post, and we always have a lot of fun, so spread the word. As of December 24, we had 285 paid members. Remember, door cards change January 1, 2020 and you will not be able to get a new one without a 2020 card.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
We sent 18 large Christmas Care Packages filled to the brim with home-made cookies, candies, caramel corn, candy canes, and all sorts of goodies to our deployed service men and women. Thanks to all who came to help. And thanks to Captain Joe Baca and Sgt Haro for bringing some of their JROTC cadets to help pack the boxes. We always appreciate these young people helping us with this project. One day we may be sending packages to some of them.

Thanks to all who baked cookies, made candies and all the other goodies and packaged them for sending in the boxes. We couldn’t have done this without you and I know our troops will be happy to get some Christmas goodies from home.

Thanks also to Pam Carlton and her kindergarten/1st grade class at Manzano Christian School for the cards they made for the Care Packages and to Becky Burcher for bringing us pictures made by the children from the Elementary School. These little “gifts” from the children are special to our deployed troops.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non- members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Our next Care Package day is January 8th. Come join us at 10:00 on January 8th and help us pack. We are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act..
