Newsletter – April 2019

Auxiliary President – Ginny Lucero – 505-453-7401
We did not receive any requests to donate any money in March.

The Veterans Home is in need of folks to help with walking and singing to the veterans; doing nails and helping with Bingo. Please look for the monthly calendar to see what might interest you.

The cookbook committee has received 450 recipes, thanks to everyone who submitted a recipe. Our next step is “dedications,” “sponsors,” and selling of the cookbook. The dedications cost $10 for a quarter page, $20 for a half page and $40 for a full page. We felt that these “dedications” would be a wonderful remembrance of club family or friends. A simple dedication of: “In Loving memory of John Doe” or “In remembrance of John Doe” with dates is all that is needed. We are now taking orders. Please see one of the committee members to place your order. Please contact Nancy Trueblood at nancy100true@gmail.com or myself at the above number to add a dedication or become a sponsor.

Group B will bake for the monthly bake sale during breakfast on April 13, 2019.

Everyone is invited to attend our monthly membership meeting on Saturday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. We will be initiating new members and/or those who have not previously been initiated. If you would like to be initiated, please contact me. The agenda for our April meeting will be a little different. We will conduct a mini workshop on many of the programs that Unit 44 participates in and ways in which we are involved with the community.

The Auxiliary will host a green chili chicken casserole dinner on Sunday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. This is a fundraiser to raise money for our programs. We hope you will plan on joining us.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.

We collect box tops (please make sure they haven’t expired) & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

For all other Post activities, please pick up a calendar and newsletter.

Membership – Linda Nenno
Membership keeps growing slowly. We now have 331 paid members, still a long way from our June 1 goal of 442. We have had quite a few new members join in the last few months, and that is wonderful. If you have not renewed, please do it soon. If you need assistance, contact me at 575-642-6164 or xsklmrm@msn.com. Invite your eligible friends to join.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
We sent 36 Care Packages in March. Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Thanks to the JROTC for their help in packing the boxes and getting them ready for mailing. It was a VERY windy day and their help was much appreciated getting those boxes into my car without losing all the customs forms. And thanks to all who came to help. We always appreciate your help.

Our next Care Package day is April 10th. We start packing as soon as we finish setting out the supplies and everything is ready…about 10:15 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are no longer collecting cell phones. Homeland security will only allow me to send 3 cell phones at a time rather than sending them in the medium flat rate box. This is making it too costly to continue.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act.
