Auxiliary President – Ginny Lucero – 505-453-7401
In September we sent 32 Care Packages to our deployed service men and women. Thanks to all who came to help.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Our next Care Package day is October 10th. We start packing as soon as we finish setting out the supplies and everything is ready…about 10:15 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.

PRAYER FOR THE MILITARY: Dear Lord, there is a young man or woman far from home, called to serve their nation in a time of war; sent to defend our freedom on some distant foreign shore. We pray You keep them safe. We pray You keep them strong, we pray You send them safely home, for they’ve been away so long. Bless those who await their safe return and those who mourn the lost. Bless those who serve this Country well, no matter what the cost. God, bless America and her heroes … and thank You for the privilege to serve. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR HEALING and THANK YOU for ALL the PRAYERS:
Sandy Squier. Fran Acre. Sherry Hardy’s husband Deone. Cathy Salls.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are no longer collecting cell phones. Homeland security will only allow me to send 3 cell phones at a time rather than sending them in the medium flat rate box. This is making it too costly to continue.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act.

Our charity donations in August were to the 9/11 Hamilton Military Museum Memorial in the amount of $150.00.

The Auxiliary has lots of great ways to volunteer and support us in this community; from Americanism to Veterans Affairs.

The Veterans Home is in need of folks to help with walking and singing to the veterans; doing nails and helping with Bingo. Please look for the monthly calendar to see what might interest you.

Our Education Give 10 program is in full swing. When you are shopping, purchase a few basic school supply items and bring them to the Legion; i.e., 10 pencils or 10 notebooks. There are many items for fifty cents or less. Please put your name in or on the bag so we can credit each and every person. Everything is a help to our school children. Our Education committee will present the school supplies to all the schools in Sierra County. If you would like to help deliver these items, please call me.

Our next bake sale fundraiser will be September 8 during the monthly breakfast from 8-10:00 a.m. We appreciate everyone’s support.

We are collecting monetary donations for water, Gatorade and granola bars for our first responders. We will be delivering after Sept. 11. There are donation containers at the bar or see any one of the legion or auxiliary officers.

Don’t forget our monthly meeting is on September 15 at 10:30 a.m. All our members and their guests are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.

We collect box tops & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

For all other Post activities, please pick up a calendar and newsletter.

“What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget” –Author Unknown

In August we sent 34 Care Packages to our deployed service men and women. Thanks to all who came to help. And a special thanks to the Hot Spring High volleyball girls who came to help. We have some wonderful people who help us every month…shopping for supplies, picking up the donation of salsa from Bullocks, and picking up boxes from the Post Office. I was unable to do Care Packages this month and you all just jumped in and took care of everything. Thank you so very much. We couldn’t do it without you.
