Activities Committee – Linda Ross
August may be hot, but it is always cool in the American Legion Post.

On Saturday, August 3 is our monthly Swap Meet/Flea Market where one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Due to the heat there will be inside or outside tables available. Our delicious burritos are selling like hotcakes. Come swap, sell and eat among good company.

The next Saturday, Aug. 10, will be our monthly all-U-can-eat breakfast at 7:00 a.m. along with a bake/book sale.

On Saturday the 17th, our SALS are treating us with their very special brisket at 5:30 p..m. Sue Barr will provide the music for your listening and dancing pleasure.

Sundays also see us busy in the afternoons. On the 4th we are serving Frito Pies and Nachos at 2:30 p.m. and the Guys vs Gals pool is at 3:00. 9 and 8 ball pool are playing on the 18th at 3:00 p.m.

HOT! HOT! HOT August Nights returns on the 25th at 4:00 p.m. There will be hot dogs and ice-cream sundaes with a large choice of toppings. Bob Acre has put together a great choice of music for us.

Bill Molina will provide Karaoke on Friday the 2nd and 16th at 6:00 p.m.

Dice are rolling for Bunco on Thursday the 8th and 22nd at 1:00 p.m. Every Thursday is game day at the Post. Bring your game and come on over. Plenty room for all.

The delicious Wednesday night dinners and live music continue at 5:30 p.m.

Our Activities Committee meets on Monday, the 12th at 1:30 p.m. All new suggestions are welcome. Be sure to see the flyers at the Post and the monthly calendars for all the details of activities.

The Veterans Home is in need of folks to help with walking and singing to the veterans; doing nails and helping with Bingo. Please look for the monthly calendar to see what might interest you.

Our 100 Anniversary Cookbook is on sale; $20 for one or $15 for more than one. See any of the cookbook committee to get your copy before they are sold out.

Mark your calendars to join us for Hot August Nights on Sunday, August 25 at 4:00 p.m. for hot dogs and ice cream.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend our monthly membership meeting on Saturday, August 17 at 10:30 a.m.

The 2020 cards are here and Early Bird renewals have started. Early Bird renewal is from July 1 through September 30. If you renew your membership during that time you have a chance to win a free membership. The drawing is held at our monthly October meeting. Membership dues are $40 for a senior member and $10 for a junior member. To date 50 have renewed and we have 3 new members.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
We sent 28 Care Packages in July. If you know of anyone who is deployed, please give us their name and address and we will be happy to send them monthly packages for as long as they are deployed.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non- members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Thanks to everyone who came to help with the packing. We couldn’t continue to do this worthy project without the help of all of you.

Our next Care Package day is August 14th. We start packing as soon as we finish setting out the supplies and everything is ready…about 10:15 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.

On Saturday, July 6 is our monthly Swap Meet/Flea Market where we have burritos available, and then on July 13 we have our delicious all-you-can-eat breakfast and due to requests, our bake/book sale is returning. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays we have pool tournaments at 3:30 p.m. and on Mondays we have our $.25 off all drinks and free pool.

Wii bowling has moved to Tuesday at 5:00 on July 2nd and 16th. Our great Wednesday evenings with dinner and live music continue. Thursdays continue to be game days with Bunco on the 2nd and 4th and games being played every Thursday afternoon is free pool. Karaoke is on Friday the 5th and 19th.

A couple of us would like to get a Ladies Night at the Pool Tables started for the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. If you would like to join in, please let me know.

We ended the fiscal year with 333 paid members, a long way from our goal of 442. Hopefully, we’ll do better this year. Maybe National will give us an attainable goal. Cell Phones for Soldiers
