Thank you to those who have renewed for 2020. The dues are still $40/year, and help us continue the programs that serve Veterans and their families. Membership is our most important program, since without members, we cease to exist. Tell your non-member friends about us, what we do, and encourage them to join if they are eligible. Come by the Post and pick up a calendar and plan to attend some of our special events. Carry a membership application in your purse. You, as a member, know we have some really good things going on at the Post, and we always have a lot of fun, so spread the word. As of January 25, we have 316 paid members. That is 90% of our final goal of 350 by June 1. We CAN make it to 100% if we work hard. Remember, door cards changed January 1, and you will not be able to get a new one without a 2020 card.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
We sent 16 large boxes filled with salsa, socks, ramen noodles, hot chocolate, protein packs, jerky and much, much more to our deployed men and women. Thanks to all who came to help. The JROTC cadets were unable to join us to help pack the boxes in January because it was their first day back at school after Christmas break. They plan to join us again in February. We always appreciate these young people helping us with this project. One day we may be sending packages to some of them.

Thanks also to Pam Carlton and her kindergarten/1st grade class at Manzano Christian School for the cards they made for the Care Packages and to Becky Burcher for bringing us pictures made by the children from the Elementary School. These little “gifts” from the children are special to our deployed troops. One of the men, who shared in a box we had sent to someone else read the letter from Pam and the drawings her students made, was so impressed and touched that he called the school to thank them. Unfortunately, they were on break and couldn’t take the call, so he emailed them his thanks and a picture. He said he had “posted the letters and drawings on the bulletin board by the Operations Desk in the squadron as a reminder.” That’s why we continue to send these Care Packages each month.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Our next Care Package day is February 12th. Come join us at 10:30 on February 12th and help us pack. We are usually finished in 1 hour. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun.
