Newsletter – October 2019

Auxiliary President – Ginny Lucero 505-453-7401
We had no requests for donations this month.

The Veterans Home is in need of folks to help with walking and singing to the veterans; doing nails, helping with Bingo and working in the gift shop at the new Alzheimer’s wing. Please look for the monthly calendar to see what might interest you. Many of the Veterans Home residents would like to dress up for Veterans Day by wearing blue slacks, white shirts and a red sweater for the ladies or a red or blue tie for the gentlemen. If you have any of these items and you would like to donate, please let me know or call Sandi Harrison at 915-637-4144.

Our 100 Anniversary Cookbook is on sale; $20 for one or $15 for more than one. We will be pre-ordering more cookbooks, if you would like one, please see one of the committee members.

October 6 at 2:30 p.m. we will be serving soup and sandwiches. The “Guys vs. Gals” pool tournament starts at 3:00 p.m.; stop in early to enjoy soup and sandwich before the tournament starts.

Arlea Hadley’s memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m. Arlea will be greatly missed. There will be a pot luck following the memorial; any side dish is welcome.

Join us on October 30 for a Halloween Costume party.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend our monthly membership meeting on Saturday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.

We collect box tops (please make sure they haven’t expired) & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

For all other Post activities, please pick up a calendar and newsletter.

Membership – Linda Nenno
The 2020 membership renewal notices have been mailed, and Early Bird renewal time is over. We will draw the two winners at the October membership meeting. So far, we have 135 members who have renewed, or joined, which is 38% of our final goal. If you know someone who is eligible for membership, give them an application or have them contact me. 575-642-6164. Bring them into the Post as your guest and let them see for themselves what a good time we have. Don’t forget those Juniors (under 18). We have 8 local Juniors and would love to have more. Membership is our most important program, and I need everyone’s help to keep it going strong.

Care Packages Marty Novak
We sent 32 Care Packages in September. Thanks to the ROTC and everyone who came to help with the packing. A special thank you to Steph and Joyce who help me with the shopping, to Moe for taking care of recycling the cardboard, and to Tennie who makes up the address labels each month. We couldn’t continue to do this worthy project without the help of all of you.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

If you know of anyone who is deployed, please give us their name and address and we will be happy to send them monthly packages for as long as they are deployed.

Come join us for our next Care Package packing day, Wednesday. October 9th We are usually finished setting up and ready to pack by 10:00 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.
