We donated $250.00 to the Sierra County Cancer Association this month.

We donated $200.00 to the 9/11 “we will never forget” ceremony to be held at the Vietnam Wall.

The Veterans Home is in need of folks to help with walking and singing to the veterans; doing nails and helping with Bingo and working in the gift shop at the new Alzheimer’s wing. Please look for the monthly calendar to see what might interest you. Many of the Veterans Home residents would like to dress up for the Veterans Car Show/Bake Sale by wearing blue slacks, white shirts and a red sweater for the ladies or a red or blue tie for the gentlemen. If you have any of these items you would like to donate, please let me know or Sandi Harrison at 915-637-4144.

We are collecting monetary donations to purchase water, Gatorade and granola bars for our first responders. This is an annual fund raising project for the American Legion Family. There are donation cans on the bar for your donation. Several members will be purchasing these items to be delivered to the EB Fire Department and TorC Fire Department at their weekly meeting the week after 9/11.

Our 100 Anniversary Cookbook is on sale; $20 for one or $15 for more than one. See any of the cookbook committee to get your copy before they are sold out. We have scheduled pot luck on Sunday,

September 22 at 4:00 p.m. Choose a recipe from the cookbook and bring to the Post so we can all try something from our famous cookbook.

Elephant Days is September 13-15. Mark your calendars to watch the parade to be held on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. Lots of the American Legion Family and many of our junior members will be in the parade.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend our monthly membership meeting on Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.

We collect box tops (please make sure they haven’t expired) & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

For all other Post activities, please pick up a calendar and newsletter…

We sent 28 Care Packages in August. If you know of anyone who is deployed, please give us their name and address and we will be happy to send them monthly packages for as long as they are deployed.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Thanks to everyone who came to help with the packing. We couldn’t continue to do this worthy project without the help of all of you.

Come join us for our next Care Package packing day, Tuesday September 10th. We are usually finished setting up and ready to pack by 10:00 and finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun. Come join us.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act.
