The Flag Day ceremony on the beach was very nice, thanks to everyone who participated and joined in the ceremony. We had several folks from nearby sites join us and commented they had not seen this flag disposal ceremony done before, and were very impressed.

The 98th annual convention was packed with lots of information, making new friends and connecting with those we hadn’t seen in a year, awards, laughter and fun. We’ll be sharing more information at our July and August meetings. School of Instruction is tentatively scheduled for July 14-15.

Don’t forget our monthly meeting is on July 21 at 10:30 a.m. All our members are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

Approximately 16-20 ladies have been playing Bunco the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Our July Bunco dates are the 12th & 26th at 1:00 p.m. It’s $2 margaritas & Mexican beer day.

Bill will be providing the music and/or karaoke for the evening. Sadie will be present and Shadow, the newest member of the bloodhound team, rescued from a puppy mill. We hope you’ll join us for a fun evening.

Mark your calendars and join us on July 22 at 5:00 p.m. for a salad & sweets supper.

Our outgoing past Department President, Liz Foster, would like to say thank you to all of us and has reserved the bowling alley/Point Blanc Winery for Tuesday, July 24 from 11-2. Food, drinks and bowling will be available for all.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.
We collect box tops & Campbell soup labels for Education, as well as Bullock’s receipts.

PRAYER FOR THE MILITARY:
O God Almighty, we ask that you will strengthen and protect the members of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. May their devotion and loyalty to you and to their home-land inspire them in moments of challenge, and comfort them in tribulation and long separation from loved ones. And finally, we ask that they may return safely to serve you and our Country in the days and years to come.

Care Packages – Marty Novak
In June we sent 36 Care Packages to our deployed service men and women. Thanks to all who came to help. And thanks to Logan and Tyler Knull and Jolene Lamorie who came with their grandmas to help. Thanks, kids.

Thanks, also, to Louisa Apodaca who made all those neck coolers for the June Care Packages. We have some wonderful people who help us every month…shopping for supplies, picking up the donation of salsa from Bullocks, and picking up boxes from the Post Office. Thank you all. We couldn’t do it without you.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

It’s time to start sending neck coolers in our Care Packages. It’s quite hot over there in the desert. I have the pattern if anyone would like to help make them.

Our next Care Package day is July 11th. We start packing as soon as we finish setting out the supplies and everything is ready…about 10:15 and we are usually finished by about 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come help us pack. It’s lots of fun.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are no longer collecting cell phones. Homeland security will only allow me to send 3 cell phones at a time rather than sending them in the medium flat rate box. This is making it too costly to continue.

What is a Veteran: A Veteran…whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve…is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to, and including his/her life.” That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that act.
