We presented a Gold Star banner to Emily Buch-Hague in memory of her son Lieutenant J.G. Philip Buch, US Navy killed on the battleship, Iowa.

Our November bake sale at the NMVH car show raised $900; all of this money goes directly to the NMVH. Thanks to everyone who helped bake and work.

Six of us picked up trash along the streets of Elephant Butte on November 6, thanks Martha, Morgan, Moe, Maurene, Elizabeth and myself.

We had a 22 ladies playing Bunco on November 9, which was a record. Our December Bunco is December 14 at 1:30 p.m. and the 28th at 1:00 p.m. It’s $2.00 margaritas & Mexican beer day.

We initiated 11 new members on Saturday, November 18 during our regular scheduled monthly meeting. Welcome ladies.

Rev up your ovens for baking, baking, baking:

• December 9 we need pecan pie muffins for the luminaria walk;
• Dec. 13 we send cookies, candies, fudge in the December care package; a snack bag with 3 or so cookies in it works best.
• And Dec.18 we will be assembling cookies, candies, fudge or small breads at noon for all those businesses in the community that support us throughout the year.

Don’t forget that we have an aluminum can recycle trailer on Hwy 195 by the Amberjack sign.
We are also collecting box tops for Education.

PRAYER FOR THE MILITARY:
May God be with all military personnel, care for them and meet their needs. May your Grace give them strength, compassion and courage to protect them throughout their duty that they may have a safe journey back to their homes and families. We all pray for their safety, their families, their courage and their success in their mission.

Thank you for your prayers: Linda Ross can hear very well now. Linda Knull sciatica is doing great. Susan McNutt is excellent, no more medicine. Christie Conklin is good. Paula Brewster still has COPD but says she is good. Maida Sanders first leg vein surgery was successful.

PRAYERS FOR HEALING:
Laverne Baker had appointment Nov 14 to get treatment for heart flutter. Flora Trujillo has another leg vein surgery Nov 28 and previous surgery on different vein was successful. Linda Padilla for her husband Pete who is having health issues. Pam Carlton, Kathy Howe.

May our prayers continue to provide help in healing and comfort for those with difficult illnesses.

Maida Sanders for the loss of her brother Clyde ‘Frank’ Knull, and to the family of Papa Vincent Fiato.

Membership Linda Nenno
Thank you to those who have renewed for 2018. The dues are now $40/year, and help us continue the programs that serve Veterans and their families. Membership is our most important program, since without members, we cease to exist. Tell your non-member friends about us, what we do and encourage them to join if they are eligible. Carry a membership application in your purse. You, as a member, know we have some really good things going on at the Post, and we always have a lot of fun, so spread the word. As of November 27, we have 249 paid members, which puts us at 56% of our final goal.

Remember, door cards change January 1, 2018 and you will not be able to get a new one without a 2018 card. I will be out of town from 12/20/17-through 12/30/17, so if you don’t renew by December 20, you will have to wait until I return to get your new card.

Care Packages-Marty Novak
We sent 27 Care Packages in November. Thanks to all who came to help pack the boxes.

Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies.

Our December packages will be special with homemade cookies and candies, Christmas candy canes and other special treats. If you’d like to donate some treats, the cookies must be sturdy cookies that travel well. Peanut brittle, fudge and other candies are good. It is cold enough to send chocolate. Bags of nuts and other goodies that travel well are also acceptable. Please pack in zip top snack bags or sandwich bags. You don’t need a large amount for each bag because there will be plenty of bakers. We just want to give them a Christmassy taste of home. We will still be including salsa, socks, toiletries, Christmas cards and letters from the school children…just not store-bought cookies and candies. If you want to come help pack, we will be packing the boxes on Wednesday, December 13 starting about 10:15. If you can bring your goodies on that morning, you can bring them in early. Be sure to add a note stating they are for Care Packages and your name. If you need to call me, my phone # is 575-744-4539.

We make this a festive occasion with Santa hats, reindeer horns, and all sorts of fun Christmassy stuff. We will be sending out about 40 boxes this month.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are no longer collecting cell phones. Homeland security will only allow me to send 3 cell phones at a time rather than sending them in the medium flat rate box. This is making it too costly to continue.
