Auxiliary- President- Linda Nenno-575-642-6164
We want to encourage people to come out and enjoy the activities at the Post, but there are a few things you need to remember. It is state law that you MUST have a picture ID whenever you enter an establishment that serves alcohol. In addition, you must have your American Legion membership card on your person or you must be signed in as a guest. The SID inspectors have been making the rounds and if we are found to be in violation of these rules, it could cost the Post a lot of money. Please be proud to show your card to the bartenders and/or door greeters when they ask to see it. And remember, they are people also, so treat them kindly. Many times the Post is very busy and you might have to wait a few minutes to get service. For the next few weeks, we will have someone at the door on Wednesday nights to check cards, IDs and sell 50/50 tickets. Proceeds of the sales will go to our annual golf tournament fund.
August came and went in a flash. Maybe because we were busy? We had our Veterans in for dinner on the 3rd. Since Patty, our cook, resigned on July 31st, it was a scramble to get cooks for the dinner. Thank you, Melanie Millsap for stepping up to make the meat loaf, and Bill Laswell for coming in and mashing the potatoes. By the way, the meal was very tasty. So, the kitchen will be manned by volunteers for the next month or two, or three.
We only had 7 players for Bunco, but we made it work and had a good time. If you haven’t played with us before, you should come try it. $2 Margaritas make it even more fun.
Thank you, Steph Ross and Moe Graham for working the bake/book sale on the 13th. We had a lot of workers out of town, and these ladies did a fine job. We made $192.50.
Our Auxiliary VP had to run her first meeting on 8/20 so I could play in a Memorial golf tournament. All reports were that she did a fine job. Thank you, Martha Thibeau. We also replaced two other officers. With the passing of Johanna Roberts, Sergeant at Arms, and the prolonged absence of Kathy Madsen, Treasurer, we approved the appointment of Joyce Hudgens and Moe Graham, respectively. Thank you, ladies for agreeing to fill these important positions in the Auxiliary.
We served hot dogs and ice cream sundaes to around 40 people for “Hot August Nights” on the 21st. Thanks to Sharon Pierson, Nancy Palladino, Ginny Lucero, and Linda Ross for helping me in the kitchen. I had the easy job of collecting and counting the money.
Even though school has started, we are still collecting school supplies for our local schools. All of our schools are Title I which means 85% of the students are in the low income bracket. Please help if you can. The collection basket is on a table in the dining area with a sign that says “Give Ten.”
We are going to collect water, Gatorade and granola bars once again to support and thank our first responders from the EB and T or C Fire Departments. They are always very appreciative of these donations. You can leave your donations of these items at the post or donate to the can on the bar. Thank you for your support.

Membership—Linda Nenno
The 2017 membership cards are here and I have started Early Bird renewals. Get your card renewed by September 30, and you will have a chance for a free membership for this year. So far we only have 86 members who have renewed, or joined. If you know someone who is eligible for membership, give them an application or have them contact me. 575-642-6164. Bring them into the Post as your guest and let them see for themselves what a good time we have. Membership is our most important program, and I need everyone’s help to keep it going strong.

But it is strong enough to break a heart.
So…be careful with your words.
PRAYER FOR PATRIOT DAY: Gracious Heavenly Being, this is a painful day for our Country and some of the wounds my never heal. We pray that the world might become a better place because of this terrible event. We thank you for the heroes that gave so sacrificially on September 11 and for those that protect us this present day. Help us to remember their courage and learn from them. May the evil of that day cause each of us to work harder to do good on this earth and bring your light into the dark places. Lord, heal all those who were crushed and broken on that horrific day. May they come to experience your presence and know your peace. Amen.
Care packages- -Marty Novak
In August we sent 27 Care Packages. Thanks to our American Legion Family for the help and support they give us, to the members, non-members, groups, organizations, and business of our community for their monetary donations, memorials and donations of supplies and to all those who come to pack the boxes. It takes us all to keep this project going.
It is very hot over there right now and those neck coolers would be a very welcome addition to the Care Packages. Anyone willing to sew them? I have the pattern if you need it.
We always do Care Packages on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Our next packing day is September 14th.. Some of us arrive at 10 to start setting things up and making boxes. We start filling the boxes about 10:30 and we are usually finished by 11. Anyone is welcome.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
We are still collecting used cell phones. These phones are sent for recycling and provide calling cards for our Troops. There is a collection container in the entry way of the Post.
